The Luc Maurice Foundation: Deepening our commitment to the well-being of seniors

So far in 2019, the Luc Maurice Foundation has donated over $1.7 million to around 60 different organizations. While the overall value of the donations is similar to last year’s figure, the number of organizations supported has been reduced from nearly 100 to about 64. Narrowing down the number of recipients was a challenge, but it had to be done so we could stay true to our values and our philosophy and offer deeper and more longstanding support to the causes we care about. That said, helping a smaller number of organizations doesn’t mean doing less. On the contrary! We’ve supported numerous initiatives in 2019, with a particular focus on three key themes: diversity, collaboration and support.

The Luc Maurice Foundation continues to seek out new partners among organizations that share our commitment to helping seniors age better. After nearly two years of research, we’ve realized that our search is unlikely to ever reach an end point because the field is extremely vast and constantly evolving. This is excellent news because it means we’ll have a great variety of opportunities to lend our support to!

The Foundation’s first engagement strategy has been to develop a broader vision of the various disciplines that have an interest in the field of ageing. In line with this approach, the Foundation decided to support a number of research projects in various fields directly related to ageing led by Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR), Université de Montréal, Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), Concordia University, McGill University and Université de Sherbrooke. This diversity will lead to a better understanding of issues related to ageing and help us target potential areas of investment.

The Luc Maurice Foundation is committed to offering more than just financial support to organizations by promoting synergies among the various organizations devoted to helping seniors live healthier lives.

To reaffirm our commitment, the Foundation has teamed up with the Mirella & Lino Saputo Foundation and the François Bourgeois Foundation to offer personal and financial support to Fondation AGES (

We also participate in the Voisin-Âge pilot project and we are proud to have acted as intermediaries between the Little Brothers foundation and Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR), which oversee the initiative.

These are just a few examples of the concrete steps we’ve taken with the aim of helping Quebec’s seniors age better.

All the members of our board of directors share a common vision: to build loyal partnerships with the organizations we support. To achieve this goal, the Foundation has chosen to move away from one-time, renewable contributions and instead focus on longer-term commitments that last several years. We believe this will enable us to build more longstanding partnerships and facilitate budget management for the organizations that receive our support.

At the same time, the Foundation is devoted to promoting generosity and philanthropy, something that Luc Maurice is particularly passionate about. We are continuing our matching gift program, through which we financially match donations made by Le Groupe Maurice employees, and we are proud to announce that the program’s popularity has increased twofold since last year. We have also renewed our commitment to the Association of Professional Philanthropists (AFP), which offers training, mentorship and support to philanthropic management professionals.

By focusing on the themes of diversity, collaboration and support and partnering with projects that promote the autonomy of seniors, we believe we’re achieving our mission of improving the quality of life of seniors in Quebec. We are confident that the commitments made by the Luc Maurice Foundation in 2019, combined with the actions implemented at all Le Groupe Maurice residences, will encourage further initiatives to improve the position of senior citizens in our society.
