The Luc Maurice Foundation is here for the holidays!

The holiday season is the perfect time to think of others and to show your generosity. Once again this year, the residents and employees of Le Groupe Maurice have pitched in to ensure the well-being of seniors. Several initiatives led by the Luc Maurice Foundation have been organized to counter the isolation of the elderly and warm the hearts of everyone!

The gift of generosity

The end-of-year celebrations are often synonymous with family gatherings, and laughter and joy with friends. But for some, this period can be a difficult time, as not everyone is fortunate enough to be surrounded by their loved ones for Christmas. Many people also live in poor conditions. It is for this reason that Le Groupe Maurice, in collaboration with the Luc Maurice Foundation, has set itself the goal of offering the gift of generosity!

To contribute to the happiness of the elderly, the Foundation and Le Groupe Maurice residences have pulled out all the stops. While last year they were able to produce 4,500 meals, this year, nearly 5,400 plates were prepared and then distributed to various community organizations.

The Ékla residence in Quebec City, notably prepared 240 meals for Lauberivière, which offers shelter and food for the homeless. The Les Jardins Millen residence also prepared 240 meals for L’Arrêt Source and SNAC (Nutrition and Community Action Service). L’Avantage and iVVi, for their part, each prepared 120 meals for the Fondation D’entraide of Brossard as well as for the Centre de Bénévolat et Moisson of Laval. And these are but a few examples, as 29 Le Groupe Maurice residences participated in this wonderful initiative!

The head office employees were quite generous in their own right. They prepared 1,000 snack bags and distributed them in teams in the Villeray, Mercier and Laval neighbourhoods to seniors living in low-income housing and experiencing financial hardship. In total, 80 employees were engaged, 1,000 snack bags were prepared, 3,000 stickers were applied, 64 boxes were transported and 13 residences were visited! An impressive total for the year 2022!

And so, everyone was able to give their time to accomplish the mission of the Luc Maurice Foundation and provide a little comfort to those in need.

The continuing commitment

Bear in mind that the Luc Maurice Foundation is not merely active during the holiday season. Regardless of the time of year, it supports numerous projects involving both aging and seniors. The Foundation also encourages the general public to become more involved in the community in order to improve people’s well-being and contribute to a more united society.

For example, many donations were made in February 2022 to help Ukraine. Quizzes on ageist behaviours, launched as part of the I Am a Senior of Tomorrow campaign, raised $24,000 at the start of the year and $16,800 more this fall. The Le Groupe Maurice photo booth at the Just for Laughs Festival also generated $5,000 in donations. Finally, $50,000 in donations were recently realized for the Little Brothers as part of the global GivingTuesday movement!

Le Groupe Maurice and the Foundation would like to thank all the volunteers (residents, residence employees, head office staff) for their active participation in these amazing community initiatives, especially, that of Christmas. You have each contributed your precious time and effort to making this all happen. Our gratitude goes out to your dedication, involvement and kindness. Your generosity was greatly appreciated. So from the bottom of our hearts, thank you once again!
