This event aims to raise public awareness of Parkinson\u2019s disease and collect funds to support research and programs that aid those affected. Here\u2019s a recap of the outstanding efforts of the teams who rose to this sporting and charitable challenge!<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1>Teaming up against Parkinson\u2019s<\/h1>\n<p>Parkinson\u2019s disease is a degenerative neurological condition that causes, among other symptoms, progressive motor difficulties and cognitive decline. The WHO estimates that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/parkinson-disease\">over 8.5 million people globally are affected<\/a> with this debilitating disease. Despite ongoing medical research to develop effective treatments, the underlying causes of Parkinson\u2019s remain shrouded in mystery.<\/p>\n<p>Combating this disease demands a <strong>collaborative and unified effort<\/strong>. The solidarity of healthcare professionals, patients, families and philanthropists is vital to educate the public, provide support and drive progress. This is the very essence of the <em>D\u00e9fi V\u00e9lo Parkinson<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>This annual cycling event, uniting riders of all backgrounds for a day of friendly competition and camaraderie, strives to make a <strong>tangible impact<\/strong> on the lives of those living with Parkinson\u2019s disease. By covering routes geared to all skill levels, participants aim to collect much needed funds for <a href=\"https:\/\/parkinsonquebec.ca\/en\/about-us\/mission-and-vision\/\">Parkinson Quebec<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h1>Pedalling for principals<\/h1>\n<p>For the 14<sup>th<\/sup> edition of the <em>D\u00e9fi V\u00e9lo<\/em>, Le Groupe Maurice stepped up its efforts and <strong>reaffirmed its dedication<\/strong> to the cause by fielding a great close-knit team! As in previous years, the 370 participants had the option to choose from three scenic routes of 40, 60 and 100\u00a0km, all starting from beautiful Oka National Park.<\/p>\n<p>On a lovely sunny day, the twenty cyclists from Le Groupe Maurice pedaled with passion and pleasure, taking in the breathtaking views along the way!<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cFor us, cycling is a way to show our support for those affected by Parkinson\u2019s disease and their loved ones. With every kilometer, we\u2019re making progress, both physically and morally, at our own pace. It\u2019s a real pleasure to meet the challenge as one true team!\u201d<\/em>, shares Julie Tardif, Vice President Finances of Le Groupe Maurice.<\/p>\n<p>With a common target of raising $350,000 in donations by September 30<sup>th<\/sup>, Le Groupe Maurice teams have made a remarkable achievement, having already collected almost $18,830 by August 24<sup>th<\/sup>! This amount is the result of generous contributions, including a $10,000 sponsorship from Le Groupe Maurice, individual donations totaling $7,130, and a $1,700 contribution from the <strong>Luc Maurice Foundation<\/strong> through its donation matching program.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to the Foundation for joining forces with Le Groupe Maurice to support this fundraising effort! We also extend our warmest gratitude to the donors and the <strong>courageous cyclists<\/strong> who rode under the colours of Le Groupe Maurice.
