We\u2019re excited to welcome Julie Courtemanche, our new General Manager at Station Est residence, who joined us on October 15th<\/sup>. To help you get acquainted with Julie, we invited her to share her story, aspirations and goals\u00a0\u2013\u00a0both professionally and personally. And we\u2019re thrilled that she enthusiastically accepted our invitation to chat with us!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Julie, with your fitness training background, what drew you to further your career with Le Groupe Maurice?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve spent many years in the fitness industry, where the values of happiness, sharing and respect have always been at the forefront. For over two decades, I\u2019ve been passionate about empowering Quebecers to adopt healthy lifestyle habits and make wellness a priority. I\u2019m very proud of what I\u2019ve accomplished.<\/p>\n

That said, I reached a point where I was eager to embrace new challenges. As a people-focused individual, I sought a transition that would allow me to continue making a meaningful impact in a human-centred setting. That\u2019s when I discovered Le Groupe Maurice, and I was immediately smitten! These vibrant communities where seniors can thrive and continue growing resonated deeply with me. I saw this as a natural evolution in my career journey.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What attracted you to Le Groupe Maurice?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The company\u2019s values really resonated with me. While exploring new opportunities, I had the chance to visit one of their residences with Brigite Ouimet, who was previously the General Manager of Station Est and 45Nord, and is now the Regional Director of Operations at the head office. Brigite and I go way back; she actually gave me my first job when I was just 18 years old!<\/p>\n

In brief, I wanted to immerse myself in the environment and get a feel for the company culture. My conversations with Brigite and the human resources team revealed that the company\u2019s core values of listening, compassion, support and integrity truly aligned with my own. The more we spoke, the more I became convinced that I wanted the position.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What drives you as a general manager?<\/strong><\/p>\n

For me, collaboration is key. I\u2019m passionate about working with department heads, teams and residents to achieve amazing things together. As general manager, my goal is to create a safe and supportive environment at Station Est<\/a>. That\u2019s what motivates me a lot.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m also very excited to discover the world of private seniors\u2019 residences (PSRs), which is completely new to me, and to learn all about its inner workings. After several years in the fitness industry, I needed to get out of my comfort zone, and that\u2019s exactly what I\u2019m doing right now. I love it!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What\u2019s the most rewarding part of working with older adults?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Well, they have so much to teach us! They all have different backgrounds and life paths, which really interest me. In fact, it\u2019s what I\u2019m so passionate about. I sincerely believe that our interactions with older individuals can help us grow; and through my role, I can contribute to their well-being and happiness. To me, what they\u2019ve experienced and will continue to experience here is important.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

What do you want to bring to Station Est residence, for both your team and the residents?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I want to provide a supportive and comforting presence, being always approachable and fostering a spirit of collaboration and joy\u00a0\u2013\u00a0every single day. My goal is to create a sense of community and belonging for both residents and team members. With my ability to connect with others, I intend to build something truly special together.<\/p>\n

Throughout my career, I\u2019ve developed a wide range of skills which will enable me to make a positive impact on everyone around me in my new role. Of course, I still have several weeks of integration and adaptation ahead of me. Since my arrival, I\u2019ve made it a point to build connections with residents and staff, and I plan to continue doing so. I\u2019m confident that 2025 will be a fantastic year!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Now, let\u2019s get to know you a bit better. How would you describe yourself in a nutshell?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019m an active and cheerful individual. I\u2019m also a people-person who thrives on communication, listening and understanding those around me. I\u2019m also known for being a problem-solver.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What\u2019s your favourite pastime?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019m a travel enthusiast at heart. Exploring new cultures and destinations truly fascinates me. Recently, I\u2019ve had the pleasure of visiting the Caribbean, France, Portugal, Spain and Italy. Next spring, my partner and I are planning a trip to Peru, which I\u2019m super excited about.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What song makes you most want to get up and dance?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ah, that\u2019s a great question. With my varied musical tastes, I have to say\u00a0\u2013\u00a0disco! There\u2019s something about the upbeat rhythms and catchy melodies that resonates deeply with me and gets my feet moving. \u201cFunky Town\u201d, \u201cRing My Bell\u201d and \u201cI Will Survive\u201d are the absolute perfect songs to dance to!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What makes you smile every time?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019m a naturally joyful person, but there\u2019s something about the sound of a child\u2019s or baby\u2019s laughter that always makes me grin.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What\u2019s your favourite dish? <\/strong><\/p>\n

As a foodie, I love eating and I love good wine. But if I had to choose only one type of cuisine for the rest of my days, it would undoubtedly be Italian dishes. A good plate of well-prepared pasta with a glass of wine makes me happy…<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What personal challenge would you like to take on in the next year?<\/strong><\/p>\n

My partner and I want to hike the Machu Picchu on foot during our next trip. We don\u2019t know yet how our bodies will adapt to the altitude, so we\u2019re doing a lot of research on this topic right now. One thing is for sure, this project excites me to the highest point!<\/p>\n

What would you wish for if you had a magic wand?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Health is one of life\u2019s most valuable treasures. It\u2019s a privilege that\u2019s often taken for granted. So, if I had a magic wand, I\u2019d grant good health to all!<\/p>\n
