To mark her new position, we sat down with her to learn more about her journey and goals. Get ready to meet a genuine and energetic leader dedicated to spreading joy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Danielle, can you walk us through your career path?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sure. I\u2019ve spent most of my career in retail, working with big-box stores. I was a director at <em>Patrick Morin<\/em>, <em>R\u00e9no-D\u00e9p\u00f4t<\/em> and <em>Bureau en gros<\/em> for over a decade. I even did a stint as a regional director. But my true passion is working in-store, building and training teams. I began running stores at a rather young 23\u00a0years old.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What brought you to Le Groupe Maurice?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My mentor, Jacqueline Gravel, actually works here. She\u2019s held the position of Assistant Vice President\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Operations since last March. I have immense respect for her, as we\u2019ve developed a strong professional relationship over the years. As you might expect, Jacqueline also has a background in retail. Last fall, she reached out to talk about Le Groupe Maurice. I had been considering a career change for at least 10\u00a0years, but it hadn\u2019t happened due to various circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>She invited me to visit one of the residences, and that\u2019s when I discovered this wonderful company. I loved the idea of applying my management skills in a new way, and I was drawn to the more personal, human side of the work. It really lit a fire under me! After visiting Le Notre-Dame, I called Jacqueline and told her I was smitten. The residents were so warm and welcoming. That\u2019s when I knew I had to start the hiring process. I think Jacqueline was spot on to think of me for this role.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What does this career shift mean to you?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d say it\u2019s the ultimate challenge. I\u2019ve never run a seniors\u2019 residence before, but I\u2019m excited to make a real difference. My goal is to build lasting connections with the staff and residents. In other words, I\u2019m here to stay!<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What skills or experiences from your past can you leverage at Le Notre-Dame?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m passionate about helping people grow. I think my coaching skills will be a huge asset. I\u2019m also a big believer in transparency and open communication. I love giving constructive feedback that helps my team members learn and improve.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What motivates you in your role as general manager?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Over the past month, I\u2019ve learned so many remarkable things from the people here. We have centenarian residents who actively participate in activities, which I find truly amazing. Older people are so pleasant and full of life when they come to chat with me.<\/p>\n<p>I soon discovered that this role would be incredibly rewarding on a personal level. I\u2019m comfortable with managing finances and expenses, but the joy and wisdom that seniors share with me is something I couldn\u2019t have experienced anywhere else. Being in a residence has opened my eyes to a whole new world.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are your greatest strengths and qualities?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m a ball of energy and positivity. Even after just a month here, residents have been coming up to me to say how much they love my vibe. They appreciate how present and attentive I am, and that means the world to me. I\u2019m also a strong communicator and an active listener; transparency is also key for me. I value honesty and straightforwardness.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you hope to bring to Le Notre-Dame?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I want to bring a sense of kindness and compassion. I think it\u2019s so important to care for older people. I want to be there for them, listen to them and give them the attention they deserve. Like the time I spent half an hour chatting with a resident about his love of German Shorthaired Pointers!<\/p>\n<p>Later, his wife came up to thank me for chatting with him. She said he didn\u2019t often get to talk about his beloved dogs, which he used to breed. I had made his day, and that really got to me. I had no idea my actions could have such a big impact on the residents. Naturally, I also want to bring my energy and positivity\u00a0\u2013\u00a0it\u2019s just part of who I am.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you find most rewarding about working with older individuals?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve never received so much love and affection so easily. It touches my heart, and it motivates me to make a difference. I find the role of general manager in a retirement residence to be incredibly fulfilling. To be honest, I didn\u2019t realize just how rewarding it would be!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What do you want to say to the residents of Le Notre-Dame?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I want them to know that I chose them. I said it on my first day, and I\u2019m saying it again. I chose Le Notre-Dame because I genuinely want to be here. And I also want to thank the residents for welcoming me with open arms. I get showered with love every day, and I feel so lucky to be a part of their daily lives.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Okay, let\u2019s get a bit more personal. Do you have a favourite sport, Danielle?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m a huge golf fan. It\u2019s a real passion of mine! I also love hiking in the mountains.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What season do you like best?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I absolutely adore autumn. The cool weather is perfect! And, of course, I get to enjoy my two favourite sports.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you have a hidden talent?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I used to paint on wood, which might surprise people since I\u2019m such an energetic and sporty person. Nobody thought I\u2019d take the time to do something like that.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What new personal challenge do you hope to take on this year?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve been wanting to try yoga, among other things, because I\u2019m a bit of a workaholic <em>(laughs)<\/em>. I imagine yoga would help me relax. I haven\u2019t done it yet, but it\u2019s one of my upcoming challenges.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you had a magic wand, what would you wish for?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I would truly wish that everyone had enough to eat. And it breaks my heart to see sick kids. So, with a magic wand, I\u2019d make hunger and childhood illness disappear.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What motivates you to get up every morning?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Right now, I genuinely feel that I\u2019m making a positive impact on people\u2019s lives\u00a0\u2013\u00a0which is a great incentive to get out of bed!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Danielle Rozon, thanks so much for this wonderful chat.
