What we must then ask ourselves is how nurturing love remains possible despite the passage of time. This is precisely one of the questions explored in this article, inspired by episode 10 of the podcast <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legroupemaurice.com\/ressources\/balado-dans-quelques-aines\/\"><strong><em>Dans quelques a\u00een\u00e9s<\/em><\/strong><\/a><strong>, hosted by Luc Maurice (in French only).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Love through the years: from passion to companionship<\/h2>\n<p>Needless to say, love calls for patience and compromise, since it\u2019s not always simple to unite two individuals whose pasts and life goals\u00a0\u2013\u00a0as well as their values, opinions and preferences may differ. With aging, <strong>love also changes<\/strong>: the initial passion frequently makes room for intimacy and tenderness, a phase where we can often understand each other without saying a word.<\/p>\n<p>In the tenth episode of the Dans quelques a\u00een\u00e9s podcast, Luc Maurice sat down with Carmen Lemelin, a psychologist and researcher at the Centre coll\u00e9gial d\u2019expertise en g\u00e9rontologie, and Diane Bellefeuille, a retired nurse who has been married and deeply in love for almost six decades. Who on Earth can claim never to have gone through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.legroupemaurice.com\/articles\/le-stress-qui-fait-vieillir\/\">hardships <\/a>with their partner? No one, of course!<\/p>\n<p>Beyond daily difficulties, aging and declining autonomy can likewise place a strain on a loving relationship. As psychologist Carmen Lemelin, who also teaches at C\u00e9gep Drummond, explains, the true challenge lies in not allowing small and large troubles to dominate everything and infiltrate the couple\u2019s bond.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, it\u2019s easy to make illness or loss of autonomy the sole topic of conversation. Yet for a relationship to remain vibrant and fulfilling, partners must <strong>continue to talk<\/strong> about what inspires them. It is also important to maintain gestures of affection\u00a0\u2013\u00a0such as kisses, hugs and compliments\u00a0\u2013\u00a0and to nurture shared projects, even if they are simple.<\/p>\n<p>According to Carmen Lemelin, these are all ways to nurture love during more difficult times. \u201cWhat\u2019s great about a project is that you anticipate it beforehand, you live it in the moment, and afterward it becomes an unforgettable memory,\u201d she explains.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Family and friendships: antidotes to isolation and loneliness<\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s worth noting that love is by no means limited to romantic couples; it can be expressed in many different ways and bring great happiness. <a href=\"https:\/\/reachlink.com\/fr\/conseils\/amitie\/the-psychology-of-deep-friendships-when-friends-become-family-copy\/\">Friendships and family relationships<\/a> play a vital role in emotional well-being, no matter one\u2019s age. In episode 10 of the <em>Dans quelques a\u00een\u00e9s<\/em> podcast, Carmen Lemelin emphasizes that such connections are powerful antidotes to isolation and loneliness.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, living in a seniors\u2019 residence fosters the <strong>development of new relationships<\/strong>. Organized activities, common areas and a strong sense of community make it possible to sustain the emotional ties that are vital to personal well-being. Love has no age. These little attentions not only create lasting memories but also deepen closeness and intimacy between individuals.<\/p>\n<p>Valentine\u2019s Day provides a wonderful opportunity to celebrate love in all its forms, not just romantic partnerships. In senior residences, the holiday is marked in various ways: themed meals, screenings of romantic films, card exchanges, giving flowers and more.
