Synopsis

To cope with the absence of his six-year-old daughter living in Berlin, a Montreal filmmaker keeps a film diary that takes him back to his relationship with his adoptive father and his biological father, whom he never knew. His diary also becomes a reflection on cinema as he revisits the work of filmmakers who have influenced him, such as Ingmar Bergman and Wim Wenders. A Father’s Diary is a poetic response to make the separation between a father and his child bearable.

Canasta is a card game originating in Uruguay that is usually played by four players in teams of two, with two decks of cards and jokers. The objective is to score points by creating “combinations” of seven or more cards of the same value (canastas) and discarding cards to get rid of your hand. The game ends when one of the teams reaches a total of 5,000 points, and requires the formation of at least one canasta in order to “go out.”
