Do you do night rounds to make sure everything is fine in the care units?

Yes. At night, rounds are made every two hours. During the day, rounds are conducted every hour between 7am and 10pm.

My loved one doesn’t usually go to activities or the dining room on their own. Is there any assistance for this?

You’re advised to express this concern while meeting with the Director of Nursing. This will ensure that the staff encourages your loved one to join the other residents.

Can my loved one bring their own furniture like an armchair, television, etc.?

Absolutely. But for safety reasons, our Director of Nursing must approve the items you wish to bring. For example, furniture that is too cumbersome could affect the resident’s safety. However, the bed frame and mattress provided here conform to government standards that we are obliged to respect. That said, they cannot be substituted for your own.

Can I go to the pool or dining room with my loved one? What about the common areas?

Family members are welcome in the care department at all times without a predefined visiting schedule. An assessment by the Director of Nursing will determine whether your loved one can safely visit certain areas of the residence with you.

I’d like to help. Can I perform certain procedures myself?

Nursing care and assistance are provided by the staff of the care unit. Your involvement and concern for your loved one is of course welcome, but cannot replace the professional care offered by our staff. This care forms part of the personalized care plan established by the Director of Nursing for safety reasons.

How many nurses and attendants are there in each residence?

A Director of Nursing is on site 5 days a week for 24 hours a day. The number of licensed practical nurses and resident attendants varies according to the complex and the total number of residents, both autonomous and those with loss of autonomy. For all residences with care units, an auxiliary nurse is available at all times.

Do you have a doctor on site who can take care of my loved one's file?

The schedule and frequency of a doctor on site varies from one residence to another. The doctor’s time is primarily dedicated to residents of the care units. It is thus possible for a care unit resident to have the doctor take charge of their medical file.

If you can no longer accommodate my loved one, will you help me relocate him?

Certainly. We will support you throughout the relocation process to establish contact with the public health system.

What are the rules for admission into a care unit?

To take advantage of the services offered in our care units, an individual must require nursing care and assistance 1 to 3 hours a day. Other health or behavioural issues may also be considered. Please refer to the care department of the residence for more information.

Do I have to take part in all the activities?

There’s no obligation to take part in any of the residence’s scheduled activities. Everyone is free to join or not. If you do get enticed by an activity, it will likely be to discover a fascinating new hobby, unleash your creativity and imagination or meet new people. Thanks to the many activities available, there’s something for everyone!

What is more, our residence recreationists are always happy to receive suggestions, so don’t hesitate to propose new ideas!

Can my children/grandchildren use the pool?

Your loved ones are welcome to use the pool from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Enjoy the pool together or challenge your guests to a match in the residence’s bowling alley! And why not invite them to try the chef’s mouth-watering fare? At Le Groupe Maurice, we know that spending time with family and friends is a true pleasure for many residents and we always do our best to accommodate you.

Can I have a BBQ on my balcony?

For safety reasons, the use of BBQs (electric or other) is not permitted on the residence balconies. But not to worry! Some residences have a BBQ that is free for residents to use in the common outdoor area. Also, the residences’ chefs hold barbecues several times a summer, to everyone’s great enjoyment. You can still set a table, chairs and other furniture on your balcony/patio and leave them over the winter.

Can I smoke marijuana in the residence?

To prevent all ambiguity, Le Groupe Maurice reviewed its policies and rules and took a clear position: as of June 1, 2018, the cultivation, sale and consumption of marijuana in “cigarette” (joint) form is not permitted in the apartments or in the common areas of the residences (inside as well as outside, including the gardens and balconies).

Residents with a medical marijuana prescription may consume marijuana in its other forms (tincture, ingestible oil, topical cream, edible, etc.) as long this does not impact the common comfort and well-being.

This new regulation applies not only to Le Groupe Maurice tenants and employees, but also to visitors. Condo owners must comply with the new rules in the residence’s indoor and outdoor common areas, but it will be up to the co-ownership syndicate to decide if the rule should extend to their common areas and condo units.

Can I smoke in my apartment?

In accordance with Quebec’s Tobacco Control Act, it is strictly forbidden to smoke in all the indoor and outdoor common areas. This rule also applies to visitors and includes the use of pipes, cigars, electronic cigarettes, and any other device of this nature.

Residents are permitted to smoke tobacco in their apartment. However, the residence’s management reserves the right to require that additional measures be taken, such as installing air purifiers at your own expense, or forbidding you from smoking on your balcony or patio if it compromises the comfort and well-being of the other residents.

Can I bring my pet to the residence?

Of course! We know that our little hairy friends are often part of the family, and it would be unthinkable to part with them. That’s why, during your move, you can be accompanied by your cat, bird, or small dog of 12 pounds or less. Mira dogs are also welcome.

Are your residences designed for independent seniors?

Le Groupe Maurice residences are mainly designed for independent seniors, offering a setting synonymous with freedom and creativity. We favour fine dining and a variety of amenities and activities that will let you flourish in a safe and comfortable environment.

We also have Signature care units for short-term, convalescence or long-term stays for residents who are semi-independent or suffering a loss of independence.

Do you have parking spaces for electric vehicles?

Innovation is one of Le Groupe Maurice’s cornerstones, namely regarding the environment, as demonstrated by Caléo, the first senior residence in Canada to be certified LEED Silver! At the request of our residents, all residences opened since October 2013 have parking spaces for electric vehicles in the indoor parking garage, which can be rented monthly. For occasional charging, you can also opt for a set amount, which provides access to the charging terminals for that entire month.

Are there activities planned in your residences?

Each Le Groupe Maurice residence has a full-time recreationist who plans, organizes, and leads recreational activities. Their aim is to contribute to residents’ enjoyment and quality of life. Each month, there are various activities you can take part in, if you so desire!

If you want an idea of the day-to-day activities held in our residences, follow us on Facebook!

Are meals included? Do we have to eat in the dining room?

You’re free to cook your own meals in your unit if you wish! Or you can enjoy the dishes prepared by the residence’s chef and kitchen staff. Join your neighbours for healthy, tasty and affordable meals, with no clean-up afterward! Also feel free to invite family or friends to join you for dinner or drinks. This is the welcoming atmosphere your new home offers.

If you opt for meals, you can pay as you go or purchase a monthly meal plan (one or two meals per day). The monthly plan is added to your rent.

How is the food in Le Groupe Maurice residences?

At Le Groupe Maurice, we believe that eating is one of life’s great pleasures. Which is why we offer a culinary experience: authentic cuisine made with fresh, locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. Our dishes are carefully concocted and prepared by chefs and served by wait staff at your table. That is our vision, a far cry from the preconceived notion of bland, mushy food served in senior residences. For more information about the food we serve, visit the Fine cuisine and table service page of our website.

Can I see a doctor at the residence?

Most of our residences work with an appointed doctor who visits the residence regularly. While we do our best to find an attending physician for each of our residences, it is not guaranteed and will depend on the situation and region.  To meet with the doctor, you must submit a request to your residence’s head of nursing care. This person, usually a registered nurse, studies each request and assigns a level of priority. Of course, nursing staff is available in-residence 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Is there indoor parking?

All Le Groupe Maurice residences have indoor parking spaces that can be rented for a monthly fee. There are also plenty of outdoor parking spaces for family and friends when they come visit.

The purchase price for condos includes an indoor parking space.

Are there emergency call buttons in all the apartments?

Your safety and health are important to us. To ensure that you can reach the residence’s care team 24 hours a day, all apartments are equipped with an emergency button or pull cord. This means that when you press the device, the nursing staff will come to your apartment to check if everything is okay or if you need help. You’ll be in the best hands at all times.

Do your apartments have fire safety features?

Safety is non-negotiable for Le Groupe Maurice. All of our apartments are equipped with smoke and heat detectors as well as sprinklers to ensure the highest level of safety for our residents. We also have a fire safety plan and conduct an annual fire drill.

Are there annual increases?

Yes, rents are indexed annually. These increases are essential if we are to maintain, year after year, the level of quality you have chosen when you come to live with us, in terms of both facilities and services.

Am I eligible for the Tax Credit for Home-Support Services for Seniors?

All seniors 70 years and older are eligible for the tax credit, according to their income, whether they live in a residence or not. The program is especially advantageous when you rent an apartment in a residence, due to the various services and the nursing staff onsite 24 hours a day. All of the services that are indicated in your lease and are included in your monthly rent will be eligible for the tax credit.

You can calculate the tax credit you could receive by using the estimator tool on the Revenu Québec site. You can also ask one of our sales and rental advisors to calculate it for you when you visit one of our residences.

Is it the same price if we are two in the apartment?

Yes, the monthly rent is not based on the number of occupants.

Do your apartments have good soundproofing?

To ensure that residents can enjoy their units in complete tranquility, Le Groupe Maurice installs sound-absorbing insulation and double the usual thickness of gyprock on the walls and ceilings. The concrete floors are also thicker than the National Building Code of Canada requires. With over 31 residences and 10,000 apartments under its belt, Le Groupe Maurice has a well-established reputation for quality construction.
