Fatma Said Performs Treasures from the Egyptian and Classical Repertoires
Egyptian soprano Fatma Said invites you on a musical journey under the expert baton of Alondra de la Parra, who leads the Konzerthausorchester Berlin for the occasion. In this sublime concert from her On The Way to Egypt tour, the orientalist compositions of Ravel, Bizet, de Falla, and the father of Argentine tango, Villoldo, meet the captivating harmonies of Egyptian songs by Mohie El Din, Farid El-Atrache, Hani Shenouda, and Abdel Wahab!
Born in Cairo in 1991, Fatma Said studied music in Berlin before becoming the first Egyptian singer to join La Scala in Milan. Today, she is internationally acclaimed for her lyrical virtuosity and has brought to life the greatest female roles of the operatic repertoire on the most prestigious stages across Europe. Reflecting her artistic journey, On The Way to Egypt celebrates the mutual influence between Western classical music and traditional Egyptian music. The evening is further enriched by magnificent performances on the ney by soloist Valentina Belanova and the bandoneon by musician Omar Massa, culminating in the world premiere of Zahr Al Khayal by English composer James Whitbourn.
