Publication of the Luc Maurice Foundation’s Annual Report

Since its creation in 2017, the Luc Maurice Foundation has been committed to supporting organizations, initiatives and causes that promote the better aging and fulfilment of older adults.

In its 2025 annual report, the Foundation highlights its actions and efforts across five key axes:

  • Fighting ageism;
  • Combating isolation;
  • Fostering socialization and empowerment;
  • Promoting health and dignity;
  • Cultivating our philanthropic spirit.

As in previous years, the Foundation has particularly supported this final axis through two donation matching programs aimed at employees and residences of Le Groupe Maurice. And one thing is certain: its partnerships and initiatives have helped improve seniors’ quality of life in many ways!

Highlights from the Foundation’s Annual Report

The Luc Maurice Foundation believes that it is essential to more fully understand the challenges of aging in order to build a more inclusive, caring world that is better suited to the aspirations of older adults. As such, in 2025, it renewed its support for several impactful initiatives that, among other things, gave a voice to seniors and helped change the way society views them.

These projects include:

  • The SENIOR REFLEX SCHOOL Project®, aimed at raising awareness about aging among elementary school students and helping dismantle ageist reflexes;
  • The study How does living environment influence seniors’ happiness?, led by Professor Mélanie Levasseur of the University of Sherbrooke;
  • The study Rethinking aging by and for seniors, conducted in collaboration with Statistics Canada and four Canadian universities (Ottawa, Sherbrooke, Simon Fraser and Moncton).

These studies have produced new data revealing the importance of social connections, personal fulfilment and a sense of inclusion among older adults. They have also helped enrich collective reflection by providing more nuanced data on perceptions of aging and the influence of living environments on seniors’ happiness.

In addition, the initial findings of these studies generated significant interest, as their results were widely covered by numerous national and regional media outlets, helping to advance knowledge and shift perspectives on aging, happiness and the fight against ageism.

Addressing the senior housing crisis

In pursuit of its mission to promote better aging in society, the Luc Maurice Foundation supports initiatives that meaningfully help improve the living conditions of older adults. This approach is based on the deep conviction that, in order to age well, seniors must be able to live with dignity, safety and autonomy, while having access to the essential resources for their well-being.

It is within this framework that its support for Mission Unitaînés takes on its full meaning. Born from the vision of Luc Maurice and now led by a team headed by Caroline Sauriol, this project addresses a fundamental challenge for many seniors: access to affordable, safe and dignified housing.

Although Mission Unitaînés is a separate organization from the Luc Maurice Foundation, both nevertheless share common goals in terms of better aging and social inclusion. The former is in fact rooted in work that began within the Foundation itself and continues the values that have guided it since its creation.

Fueled by Luc Maurice’s boldness, perseverance and deep conviction, Mission Unitaînés quickly surpassed its initial ambition. Indeed, thanks to exemplary resource management, the housing project made it possible to build an 11th building while staying within the budget initially planned for 10 buildings.

These achievements also helped win the support of both community and government partners, leading to the announcement of a Phase 2 for the coming years!

Strengthening philanthropy in Quebec

As mentioned previously, the Luc Maurice Foundation places great importance on supporting stakeholders in the field. In 2025, many local organizations received its support for projects aimed at improving the quality of life of older adults.

To bring this initiative to life, the Foundation notably invited its partners and donors to a friendly cocktail event at the LIZ residence. Conducive to solution-driven exchanges, this event, held last November, raised nearly $210,000, a sum that Luc Maurice doubled at the end of the evening.

Residences rooted in their community

Once again this year, the residences of Le Groupe Maurice also contributed to the Foundation’s philanthropic drive through various initiatives, including:

  • “Les Maurice à la course,” a fundraising event benefiting the Alzheimer Society of Montreal, conceived by Geneviève Saulnier (then General Manager of the ORA residence) and her colleague Luisa Lopez;
  • The lobster fundraising dinner at the Caléo residence, created to support the Little Brothers organization;
  • The recreational activities at the iVVi residence, organized to support the Maison de la sérénité de Laval;
  • The “Un sac pour toi” project by Les Résidences du Marché, aimed at distributing 50 stocked schoolbags to students at the Trait d’Union elementary school in Sainte-Thérèse.

In addition to these activities, more than 30 Le Groupe Maurice residences had the opportunity to distribute over 6,600 meals during the holiday season, bringing comfort and warmth to individuals and families in need.

This commitment was also reflected in the strong involvement of employee volunteers as part of the same Christmas initiative. Thanks to their outstanding dedication, 1,100 Christmas bags were delivered to 13 low-rent housing units (HLMs) in Montreal and Laval. Each bag, containing a gift card, treats and a handmade greeting card, provided residents with a thoughtful personal touch.

Beyond the distribution itself, festive gatherings were also organized in each HLM, featuring music, activities and social interactions to bring the holiday spirit to life and create meaningful moments of togetherness.

In total, no fewer than 87 employee volunteers took part in this initiative, contributing both to the preparation and on-site activities, clearly illustrating Le Groupe Maurice’s culture of involvement.

More than ever, the world needs altruism – and philanthropy is a key lever for building a more united and fairer society. With a bit more than $1.5 million donated to organizations in 2025, the Luc Maurice Foundation reaffirms the relevance of its mission to promote better aging and combat ageism.

We would like to take this opportunity to once again thank the Luc Maurice Foundation’s partners, those of Le Groupe Maurice, the volunteers (employees and residents), as well as the generous donors who contributed to the completion of all these projects!
