Concert: The amazing Keystone Big Band in Paris

2019 · Jazz · 53 min

Director: Laurent Hasse

Cast: Celia Kameni, Biréli Lagrène, China Moses, Sarah McKenzie

At the prestigious Salle Pleyel in Paris, The Amazing Keystone Big Band welcomes Celia Kameni, China Moses, Sarah McKenzie, and Biréli Lagrène for a concert that promises to be a resounding success. The great French jazz orchestra features Fred Nardin on piano, who helped found it in 2010 alongside saxophonist Jon Boutellier, trombonist Bastien Ballaz, and trumpeter David Enhco. Whether accompanying Célia Kameni’s lyrical flights of fancy or Biréli Lagrène’s prodigious improvisations, the orchestra pays tribute to the big bands of the swing era, as well as to the ingenuity of modern jazz.

This respect for the tradition of classic 1940s jazz ensembles, blended with a fierce sonic originality, is breathtaking from start to finish. The concert is not only an opportunity to revisit vocal jazz standards, such as “How High The Moon,” but also—and above all—to reinvent them. Finally, let’s note the presence of Célia Kameni, a French singer of Cameroonian origin and a leading figure in contemporary vocal jazz. Her warm tone and perfectly mastered technique are breathtaking!

To cope with the absence of his six-year-old daughter living in Berlin, a Montreal filmmaker keeps a film diary that takes him back to his relationship with his adoptive father and his biological father, whom he never knew. His diary also becomes a reflection on cinema, revisiting the work of filmmakers who have influenced him, such as Ingmar Bergman and Wim Wenders. Parkinson's: Exercise

The exercises will be offered twice a week by resident volunteer Jeannette Mercier.

The treatment of Parkinson's disease is based on several factors, particularly the integration of an exercise program. These promote the maintenance of independence and help to maximize the effect of the antiparkinsonian medication, which provides a better quality of life.

The functions and benefits of exercise are huge. In particular, it allows:

  • improve muscle flexibility,

  • range of motion

  • the coordination,

  • the balance,

  • elocution and dexterity,

  • to strengthen the extensor muscles, which among other things help keep the back straight,

  • to act on stiffness and postural problems,

  • to reduce fatigue,

  • promote muscle relaxation and relieve cramps,

  • to act on stress, depression, insomnia, constipation.

  • Studies also suggest that exercise may slow the progression of Parkinson's disease.
