Filled with nostalgia, Route 66 takes us back to the era of the Gold Rush and the conquest of the American West. From Chicago blues to California rock, via Missouri jazz, it gave rise to countless musical influences. Christian invites you on a true journey through the America of yesterday, into the remnants of the Far West, where one almost expects to see Native Americans and cowboys suddenly appear.
But Route 66 is also the story of the farmers who, less than a hundred years ago, were forced to leave their land to survive, as John Steinbeck so powerfully recounts in The Grapes of Wrath. Today, from deserted canyons to California beaches, Route 66 continually reinvents itself through the storieAndré Maurice takes us through the Cordillera of the Andes and its lower regions, revealing their ethnic, geographical, and historical richness.
We will begin our journey through time and space in the community of Patakancha, visiting sites such as Moray, Rainbow Mountain, and the Maras Salt Mines. You will discover Cusco, the capital of the Inca Empire, renowned for its heritage and vibrant festivals. We will then head to Machu Picchu, the ultimate masterpiece of Inca architecture.
Next, we travel into the tropical forest, where cocoa, tea, and coffee are grown. The second part of the journey begins in Trujillo, where the marinera dance—rich in cultural influences—takes center stage. Yungay, the gateway to the Cordillera Blanca, still bears the memory of the devastating 1970 Huascarán avalanche.
Lima, the capital of Peru, is a major cultural center where the national holiday is celebrated in July. Heading south, we will discover the Oasis of Huacachina and the famous Nazca Lines. Finally, Arequipa, Peru’s second-largest city, is a gateway to Colca Canyon, home to vicuñas and the spectacular Condor’s Viewpoint.
